An introvert’s guide to thriving in an extroverted world.
Principle-First
25-40% of the population is introverted.
Yet there’s little guidance for us on how to navigate in a society that rewards extroverts.
The truth: You CAN build the life you want as an introvert. But you'll need these 3 strategies…
First, a quick note about introverts vs. extroverts.
Biology and genetics shape our temperaments. Introverts' brains have a stronger response to external stimuli.
Rule of thumb:
- Extroverts get energy from socializing
- Introverts get drained of energy from socializing
Note: Introversion-Extroversion is a spectrum. Today’s advice is for those predisposed to introversion (not just for those on the extreme end of the scale).
SUPERHUMAN SCORING
In every edition of System Sunday, I assess the featured system across three superhuman dimensions: impact, setup, and maintenance.
Unlike your typical review, I focus on factors that influence personal growth. Get to know the evaluation system.
Impact (9.5/10)
The challenge introverts face?
Society often rewards extroverted behavior. In the words of Jay-Z, “A closed mouth don't get fed.”
So it's helpful for introverts to have some strategies.
Here we go…
Setup (7.5/10)
Tip #1. Play to Your Strengths.
Einstein, Oprah, Michael Jordan.
All famous introverts.
Their strengths:
- Ability to practice a craft in solitude
- More time for self-care
- Thoughtful and self-aware
These are your superpowers (among others). Use them.

Tip #2. Be Socially Courageous in Key Moments
Introverts can learn to switch to “extrovert mode.”
A presentation, a networking event, meeting your partner's family…All crucial moments where you’ll benefit from being more social/outgoing.
Turning it on comes with practice (and realizing introverts are capable of doing so)! Beforehand, define the finite, short duration of “extrovert mode.” You’ll feel less stress and more psychological safety.
Afterward, you can recharge (see the next tip).
Maintenance (7.5/10)
Tip #3. Build in Time to Recharge
If you are an introvert who recently socialized, then build in buffer time to recharge.
Enjoy time alone, read a book, or go for a walk in nature. Or, my favorite: Take yourself out to dinner.
Ignore extroverted societal norms; rebalance yourself.
Related tip: Always take off work the following day you return from vacation. Travel can be overstimulating and depleting. (I’ve been told this is good advice for extroverts too.)
BRINGING IT HOME
Those were 3 strategies to THRIVE as an introvert.

I hope you found these tips helpful! As an introvert myself, they took me years to learn.
